That Surfin' Echidna...Dude.

Nice to see you again! Have you lost weight? Woww, I can really tell...Niw that you're under the impression I'm a nice guy, hello.Man this week felt long.Ok, so I'm a little late with this week's drawing but I have a pretty good excuse: Echidna's are fucking hard to draw. I took this drawing request from Matt, one of my blog readers and a classmate and damn does he know how to pick 'em. I struggled to make this thing not look like a bird on two legs, to make its mouth not look like a platypus mouth and its fingers not like claws. It's a clusterfuck of an animal if you've ever seen one:an anteater, porcupine and platypus...a fucking platypus... enough said. This is the first pic, sorry about the quality, it was with my Blackberry (I don't feel good if I don't capitalize my phone):


Ok, so that took me an insane amount of time to think up. I seriously had like 6 pics of it for reference and this is as good as I could get it. Don't like it?....you don't?...Ight then, I don't care about you, you're not my fucking moms! (You actually might be, I don't think she'd like this either.) Anyways, Matt wanted it surfing so...:

At the beginning, it was just a plain board, it was pretty boring to me but then, while in a class (I won't say which for "not failing any class" purposes) and decided to add Knuckles the Echidna to the board to just make this much easier to understand what the hell an Echidna is. Although I have NO IDEA how they came up with calling Knuckles an Echidna, should've just been Knuckles, the Bloody Jamaican Hedgehog, but I'm not a game designer so whatever. Here's a little color in your face. Boom!:

Yeah, at this point, I thought I was pretty much done but since it didn't quite feel complete, I decided to cave and actually draw a bit of a background, water does tend to add a little more credibility if you're pretending to surf (it's not impressive when you use your body as a surf board on the beach, not unless you have someone standing on top.) but I had never drawn water effectively since I like outlining too much but ah, here we go:

I don't know if I made the illusion that he's inside a wave tube but i tried. I just know that I wouldn't surf, swim or even tan near this thing, not for fear of getting pierced by its spiky back (how does it do it?...hardcore hair gel?) Just because I know I wouldn't be picking up any girls with this smooth looking dude nearby.(Ladies, he's single!) Just let me know what you think about him. I'll name him(her?) sometime this week. You can bet it'll be something radical (surf terminology, same as ninja turtle terms). Ight, remember, don't fuck with Echidnas, not because I say they're dangerous, they just seem capable of murder, I think its their naturalluy purple eyes that I can't help but fall in love with... (Knuckles has purple eyes thats why.) Anyways, leave me a request if you'd like. If I like the idea and think I can do it, I'll do it. Simple as that. Alright So i Changed it a lil...

Some friends started getting on my case about the colors i picked out for Desert Penguin Ninja Mercenary...who I shall now name Ninguin (mix between ninja and penguin...:D...clever, i know) So I updated it a little by going over the colors and making them a lil darker and more penguin like, well, as much as a penguin with a hat's supposed to look like. Just a quick edit, will fix up at some point in photoshop. Might include in my internet portfolio if good enough.

Like I said, barely a change but might as well show the real finished product that's going on my door in Fort Awesome.

Desert Penguin Ninja Mercenary

So if you haven't noticed, I cut my hair (how dare you! I spent all day at the salon to look pretty for you!) Ok, seriously now, I'm heavily into manga and movies. I like to draw things that encompass that. Lately I have gotten into the habit of drawing innocent looking animals with threatning attire, like a cute lil chocobo with a big fucking sword, but c'mon, it has a scarf, it won't hurt you.
So, I was 1/4 of the way through inking before I forgot to take the pic, check it:


I used some king penguin pics I found on google. "Googlemagic!"(Dane Cook) I looked up some pic for sais and the hat from Desert Punk. Here's the inked version:


So yeah, cute penguin+sais+Desert Punk Symbol(hat)= Desert Penguin Ninja Mercenary. Alright, now for the colored version, I used color pencils but I'm going to photoshop both of the drawings I've drawn to see how they look. Moving on:


I didn't want to apply too much force and I was kinda annoyed with the belly since it looks too white so i shaded it a little bit. Be warned, you run into a penguin in the desert, dark alley, lonely staircase, the zoo, they're always ready to fucking pierce you with a sai. Life lesson, I speak from expirience. Sorry Its been a while

It took me like 2 hours on saturday to get my banner and layout all well. I even had to go in and mess with the code myself (I hacked the Gibson...*Hackers Reference*) Anyways, the banner is just a collage of drawings I did in the past, some really old ones from my high school days. So what did you do? Hmm? HMM? Then shut the fuck up then!...ahem,

First Post!! Woot! Wait... this is MY blog.

Hey,name's Mike and welcome to my blog I so aptly named "I Draw Stuff". I'm going to be talking about, you guessed it, nuclear physics...or drawing stuff. I'm a SUNY Purchase student, New Media major (meaning anything artistic with computers) and I like to draw things in my spare time that I can't use for my portfolio so yeah, I like to waste time.

This is something I recently drew for my door. Why draw something for the door? Because the girls in front of my dorm room drew something and started an ART WAR!...They don't know about it yet but that just means me and my roomate are winning. My roomate decided to draw two Nintendo characters, a Boo and a red mushroom. I decided to go for a Final Fantasy character: A chocobo wielding a buster sword (FFAC version) and threw in a little Naruto inspired eyes...
Here's my inked drawing.

I used a .25mm line width black Micron since its the only pen I have skinnier than a sharpie.
Here's a little of the colored drawing.

I used sharpies for most of it but added some coloring pencils for the borders as to not screw the inking up.

Here's the finished product.

Used color pencils for shading and light spots. Added a little scarf for, i don't know, cool scarf action? Anyways, that's it for today. Check every now and then to see what I'm drawing up here at SUNY Purchase.
